Powderz: Our Tart & Messy Tea Cookies
In the months it took to perfect these crumbly cookies (and a few added pounds along the way), we found guidance in a recipe for “Buckingham Palace Shortbread,” reportedly served with the Queen’s tea. We reworked the dough to withstand our old-fashioned, hand-cranked cookie press, and the result is the most butter-laden, delicate cookie we could make.
For the powder coating, we wanted something very flavorful and unexpectedly tart to meet the "intense flavor" standards of our products. Messy like a good powdered sugar donut, the taste is, at first, shockingly tart, but then quickly succumbs to the buttery melt in your mouth cookie at its heart. Although lemon is the most popular, the berry flavors feature real freeze dried fruit powder.
What Makes Powderz Special
- Hand-cranked tradition — pressed on our vintage-style cookie press in “the bakery” (a small room with a commercial oven, a mixer, and a marble table)
- Buttery & delicate — a tender shortbread-style crumb tuned for melt-in-your-mouth moments
- Tart powdered finish — playful, puckery, and a little bit messy like a good powdered sugar donut.
- Tea-worthy — balanced sweetness that flatters tea or coffee without overpowering
- Small-batch made — mixed, pressed, and dusted by hand on the Oregon Coast
Heritage Note
Made by hand on the Oregon Coast, where simple tools and patient methods still guide the bake.
